The article is devoted to the study of the history of development, classification, principles and approaches to learning in the format of massive open online courses. The article examines the evolution of massive open online courses from the first projects to modern educational ecosystems, analyzing existing platforms such as Coursera, edX, Udacity, FutureLearn, Khan Academy and Canvas Network. The focus is on pedagogical strategies such as active learning, flipping, collaborative learning, gamification, personalized and problem-based learning, and blended learning. The article highlights the importance of choosing the appropriate platform depending on the educational goals and needs of the users, and suggests combining different platforms to achieve optimal results. In conclusion, massive open online courses continue to evolve, making significant contributions to accessible and inclusive education around the world.
